Nearly 50 new solar panels have been installed earlier this month at Singleton Heights Pre School and on Monday morning, they were connected and powered up for the first of many energy saving days.
The early education centre is continuously working towards reducing their carbon footprint and looking at ways to continue the pre-schools goal to be as sustainable as possible.
“The idea sparked from the Keep Australia Beautiful Awards in 2019, and we thought how can we improve,” said the centres Sustainability and Environment Program Mentor Angela Fuller. “
We are always working towards sustainability, we are huge on recycling, we have started a book exchange, and some of our equipment, like our new deck, is made from 100% recycled plastics thanks to our friends at REPLAS,” Ms Fuller continued.
“We are really interested to see what difference it makes to our bill,” said the Centre Director Neisha Dean. “Thanks to Ashton Coal and Solar Rebates, both the staff and children are excited for this new project.”
Ashton Coal Operations Manager Aaron McGuigan was pleased to help make this environmental project possible.
“Singleton Heights Pre-School provides an important and valuable service to the families in our community and we are pleased we could help them improve their facilities,” he said.
“Our Community Support Program is designed to make a positive difference to the people that live in our local community and this is a sustainable project with the potential to educate students about the value of solar power for the environment.”
